Cory Schneider wanted to start. He was traded. Roberto Luongo wanted out, he was traded too. And then there was Ryan Kesler who, as rumour had it, wanted out as well. Instead, Mike Gillis was fired and Jim Benning was brought in to take his place.

Benning – the new general manager of the Vancouver Canucks – was thrown right into the fire. How was he supposed to clean up the mess that was left by his predecessor? Well, he started off right before the draft by trading away the unhappy forward (Kesler) in an attempt to make his mark. Since then, he’s made a couple more moves and drafted based on how he felt the team could improve.

This edition of Tape2Tape is dedicated to the Jim Benning rebuild and how he’s started a new era in Vancouver. While he’s still got a long way to go, has Benning’s attempts to clean up the Canucks resonated with fans just yet or is it too early to tell. For the complete story, check out Tape2Tape on THW.
