More than once this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans truly believed that the team was on their way to a second consecutive playoff appearance. More than once, that’s what the NHL standings showed. That is until the Leafs had a major collapse late in the season, losing eight straight games and squandering only four out of a possible 28 points to close out the season.

With the fall in the standings, and another disappointing season, the Maple Leafs are left with many offseason questions. Where will Randy Carlyle be next season? Is Dion Phaneuf a good leader? How about James Reimer – will he be a Toronto Maple Leaf?

My latest for The Hockey Writers looks at all these questions and more, analyzing the possibilities and trying to provide answers.
