Video Room: Analyzing Alex Killorn’s Hit on Paul Ranger

An earlier post, I took a quick step into the video room to analyze the hit Tampa Bay Lightning forward Alex Killorn put on Maple Leafs defenceman Paul Ranger. The hit was certainly looked at and questioned by many, but Killorn received no supplemental discipline from the NHL.

While many will argue it was a dirty hit, others will say that Ranger put himself in a bad position. Either way, the hit left Ranger hurt as he was taken off the ice on a stretcher. While both players were in bad position leading to the inevitable hit, there’s more to this hockey play than each side will consider in making their decision on what side to take.
