Maple Leafs, Phaneuf Agree On Extension

Seven years. Seven million dollars per year. That’s a large sum of money – and one that will make Maple Leafs’ captain Dion Phaneuf a very wealthy man. One day before the NHL’s Winter Classic, the team announced they’d locked up their captain to a long-term deal. 

Phaneuf responded with how excited he was to remain a Leaf, and what it means to be the leader of such a storied franchise. But many fans and hockey people questioned the term of the new contract. Me? I did at first, but then I looked at his numbers.
