The Detroit Red Wings are looking to make the NHL‘s postseason again – which would make it 23 consecutive years. But their trying to do it with a veteran squad, rather than use the unmistakably talented youth within their organization.

The Wings brought back Danny Cleary and maintain confidence in players like power forward Todd Bertuzzi and Mikael Samuelsson. But what’s happening to the confidence of players like Gustav Nyquist and Cory Emmerton – two players who impressed late last season?

Just recently, the team waived another veteran in Jordin Tootoo. It was only prior to that move that they recalled Tomas Tatar who’s played fairly well early on. But there’s good reason for the sixth oldest NHL team to turn to their young guns. Here’s my story on why the Red Wings should recall Emmerton and Nyquist and let them back up Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk.
