Red Wings: Shifting Defence in Detroit

Niklas Kronwall, Detroit Red Wings, Injury, Concussion

Lately, it’s been a struggle for the Detroit Red Wings to find a steady, consistent defence core. Niklas Kronwall was injured on a hit by Cody McLeod, before Jonathan Ericsson was excused from the lineup for the birth of his first child. Now, Ericsson is injured and expected to miss a couple of weeks.

Kronwall came back from a concussion only to be hit in the face during practice by a stray puck. So, going into the game against Ottawa this past Wednesday it was a mad scramble to try and find someone to fill the void.

Rookie Xavier Ouellet was recalled from Grand Rapids. He was then designated and recalled again as a precaution.

Here’s my full pre-game story of the shifting of defence in Hockeytown.
