Maple Leafs Analyst on Checkmates: The Show

This past Friday – October 4 – I went on Checkmates: The Show with hosts Marc Skipper and Bentley Holt.

The show – based out of Boston – is strictly about hockey. I was brought on to talk about the team I’ve been covering for The Hockey Writers as of late – the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Off to a decent start this season – we talked about what has gone right and what has gone wrong so far for the team. I answered questions surrounding contracts signed during the offseason and preseason. One fan demanded to know why Dave Nonis was signed to a contract extension as the team’s general manager.

In fact the question went something like this: “Why did they sign Nonis to an extension with all the bad moves he’s made?”

I followed that up with a question of my own. What horrible moves did Nonis make? Some have been questionable – more length than dollar amount – but I wouldn’t call any of them horrible… so far.

We talked Mason Raymond, Phil Kessel, and the battle in net between James Reimer and Jonathan Bernier. But why not take a listen and let me and ETIN radio know what you think.
