Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

A story about the difficulties of living with a mental illness, director David O. Russell’s film Silver Linings Playbook delivers audiences a tell-all experience of one man’s battle to get a grasp on existence in a judgemental community.

After his life falls apart, Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper) tries to pick up the pieces of what he used to have – his wife, his job, and his independence.

Forced to live with his parents after a stint in a mental institution, Pat tries to engage in his fathers obsession of the Philadelphia Eagles.  But Pat’s issues collide with his father’s obsessive-compulsive personality and he soon needs to find an escape.  While attempting to rebuild friendships and remaining positive about his relationship with his wife, Pat crosses paths with Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) – a girl with problems of her own.

Nominated for eight Academy Awards – including Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Picture – Silver Lingings Playbook is a story of how two people are brought together by the silver linings in their lives.

Cooper (The Words) and Lawrence (The Hunger Games) both deliver performances that will shock audiences.  Their onscreen chemistry mixed with their characters’ back stories delivers viewers an unconventional friendship that will toy with their emotions.  Add to that, Robert De Niro‘s Oscar nominated performance as Pat’s dad and this film won’t disappoint.

It’s a film that will have you laughing and crying – drawing on all the human emotions.  But it’s a film that will deliver the optimism that exists in silver linings.

David O. Russell (director of The Fighter) brings audiences to their feet with this must-see drama – one of the year’s best films.
