Pitch Perfect (2012)

Imagine for a second – a dark stage, shadowed figures standing in a particular formation, and suddenly a beat starts coming from the mouths of these figures. The lights turn on, the figures become identifiable, and the song begins.Welcome to an a cappella concert.  And the singers? They are a group of girls you may never have considered.

Pitch Perfect is a film about self-discovery. It’s a story about finding a place in a new world – a place that isn’t very familiar.

The film unveils a type of music that may be a mystery to many.  There’s no background sound – just the noises and beats made by the mouths of the performers.

In this case Anna Kendrick (Up In The Air) leads the way.  Playing a college freshman she joins a campus a cappella group that includes Brittany Snow (Hairspray), Anna Camp (The Help), and Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids). Changing the face of the group, she delivers with more punch and more power belting out songs in the perfect pitch.

Director Jason Moore provides audiences with a humorous story of college students’ struggle for self-discovery.  Although it revolves around the relationships of one girl, the film is relatable, entertaining, and worth a watch.

Let these groups hit the perfect notes, make you laugh, and leave you smiling at the end.
